Norwood Police Log: Man Punches, Damages Cell Door at NPD Station

The following information was provided by the Norwood Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, they do not indicate conviction.

Wednesday, Jan. 16 7:24 a.m. - Roll-over reported by state police at Neponset Street. Norwood Police and Fire responded. One vehicle towed from the scene. State police notified of damaged signs on off ramp to Canton. One transported to the hospital. 7:26 a.m. - Caller reported motor vehicle accident on Mylod Street. Norwood Police and Fire responded. Two car accident. One party transported to the hospital. 4:16 p.m. - Caller reported unwanted, intoxicated party at Rosemary House. Subject placed into protective custody. 6:03 p.m. - Party placed into protective custody punched the cell door, breaking the plexiglas in cell 1. As a result Michael A. Friday, Dec. 3: 2:35 p.m. - Caller reports kids standing on Washington St. throwing rocks at cars parked in the lot at Poirier Sales and Service. Officers report one car hit and filed a report. 4:16 p.m. - Two officers responded to Walpole St. and Walnut Ave. when a caller reported a male party who appeared drunk and was stumbling down the street. Officers on the scene reported the man had a head laceration and notified the fire department for transport. 8:38 p.m. - A caller from the front desk of the Courtyard Marriott on River Ridge Rd. reports that a man was exposing himself to guests. She did not know the man's whereabouts at the time of the call. Officers responded and filed a report. 10:10 p.m. - Caller reports domestic disturbance …

Highlights from the daily police logs.

Wednesday, Dec. 1: 6:20 a.m. - Officers initiated investigation of a suspicious vehicle at Cadillac Village on Route 1. As a result one party was placed under arrest for an active warrant and one was summonsed for operating a motor vehicle after suspension. 9:00 a.m. - A walk-in reported vandalism to their motor vehicle parked on Davis Ave. Officers filed a report. 6:53 p.m. - Walk-in report from a citizen that their cell phone had been stolen from Norwood High School. A report was filed. 7:00 p.m. - Caller reported a domestic disturbance at a home on Concord Ave. Subject was placed under arrest for destruction of property and malicious threat to commit a crime. 8:11 p.m. - Caller reported a male party on the back deck of their residence …

The School Must Go On

Construction of the new high school continues on target, despite vandalism and the coming winter.

Despite an instance of vandalism and the coming winter months, officials say that the construction of the new Norwood High School is still on track to be completed mid-May 2011. "Progress on the site is continuing at a strong pace," said Project Manager Tim Bonfatti said. The crowning acheivement, so to speak, was the installation of the new clock tower earlier this month. "It's very enouraging," said Norwood Superintendent of Schools James Hayden on Sunday. Project manager Tim Bonfatti and Callahan gave a monthly report stating the physical and monetary progress to the Board of Selectmen last week. Bonfatti said that the project is ahead of cash flow projections by about 7 percent at this point and is averaging about 115 workers on site …
