Norwood Fire Log: Concannon's Fire, Gas Leaks and a Vehicle Fire

The following information was provided by the Norwood Fire Department.

The Norwood Fire Department responded to 121 incidents during the last week, between Monday Feb. 4 and Sunday, Feb. 10.   The following reports were among those calls: Tuesday, Feb. 5 9:46 p.m - A motor vehicle accident with injuries was reported near Washington Street.   Thursday, Feb. 7 1:39 p.m. - Fire crews responded to a reported building fire at Concannon's on on Lenox Street.   Friday, Feb. 8 8:09 a.m. - Crews responded to a gas leak on University Avenue.  5:05 p.m. - A power line was reported down on Rock Street.  Saturday, Feb. 9 7:44 a.m. - A passenger vehicle fire was reported on Nahatan Street.  2:37 p.m. - A gasoline (or other flammable liquid spill) was reported on Washington Street.  Sunday, Feb. 10 5:43 p.m. - A gasoline (…

Norwood FD Extinguishes Thursday Fire at Concannon's

No injuries were reported.

The following was submitted by Norwood Fire Department Spokesman George Morrice. The Norwood Fire Department responded to a reported building fire at Concannon's Village early Thursday afternoon. The call came in at 1:39 p.m. for smoke and fire coming from Concannons. Firefighters arrived within two minutes to find fire issuing from the wood shingle facade of the building. Firefighters quickly attacked the fire with a 2-inch handline and had the fire contained by 1:49 p.m. Crews were able to determine that the fire had not spread to the interior or attic space of the building. The fire is under investigation but determination has not been made to the cause. No one was injured in the fire and a damage estimate was given of $3,500.

Kevin's Cause to Hold Benefit for 21-Year-Old Battling Cancer

The benefit for Kevin Morrison will be held August 12 at Four Points by Sheraton Norwood.

Editor's Note: The location of the event has changed to the Four Points by Sheraton Norwood. Kevin Morrison, a 2008 graduate of Norwood High School and captain of both the football and hockey teams in his senior year, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in February. He has been bravely battling the disease under the care of doctors at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. It has been determined that he would be better served by alternative treatments which are not available in the Boston area. Treatments up to this point have depleted the Morrison family’s finances and many of the coming treatments and associated costs are not covered by insurance. A fundraiser will be held for the 21 year old Morrison on Friday, August 12. The fundraiser, …
