MassDOT Urges Safe, Smart Holiday Travel

The MassDOT offers tips and tools to help plan ahead, and asks motorists to closely monitor varying weather and roadway conditions.

The following is a statement from the MassDOT: MassDOT encourages residents and visitors to drive safely and use public transportation where possible during the upcoming holidays. With some wintry weather in the forecast, drivers should be prepared to encounter varying roadway conditions as they head to their holiday destinations.   “Over the next several weeks our customers will be traveling to enjoy time with family and friends,” said MassDOT Secretary and CEO Richard A. Traffic Enforcement Ramps Up During Holiday Season

Troopers from all over New England want to help local drivers stay safe and prevent crashes during the holiday season.

The holidays are upon us, and many residents will be traveling to see family and friends all across New England. State Police are doing their part to help ensure these visits don't end in tragedy because of impaired or distracted driving. The Massachusetts State Police joined forces with other New England State Police divisions at headquarters in Framingham to explain their C.A.R.E program. Increased patrols this week will be cracking down on impaired/drunk driving, texting while driving and seatbelt law violations, among other things. Heavy Rain the Prelude to Mild Holiday Weather

Two to four inches of rain is expected in Norwood between Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service, but with the sun reappearing in time for Thanksgiving.

Norwood can expect the days before the Thanksgiving holiday to be the storm before the calm, according to the National Weather Service. Two to four inches of rain, falling heavy at times, and winds gusting up to 29 mph are predicted for Tuesday night into Wednesday afternoon for Norwood and the surrounding area. A hazardous weather outlook has been issued by the NWS station in Taunton, cautioning residents that minor flooding may occur in lower and urban areas. Rain is expected to begin around midnight Tuesday and last until around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, with the overnight weather clearing and leaving a sunny Thursday with high temperatures near 50 degrees. MassDOT Enourages Drivers to Plan Ahead for Holiday Traffic

The busiest travel days for Thanksgiving will be Wednesday and Sunday, according to the MassDOT.

Release courtesy of the MassDOT: The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) encourages residents and visitors to plan ahead for travel during the upcoming holiday weekend. Thanksgiving holiday traffic is expected to be at its peak on Wednesday, Nov. 23 and Sunday, Nov. 27. I-90 Exit 9 connecting I-84 to Connecticut and New York experiences heavy traffic and busy toll plazas. To avoid delays on Wednesday and Sunday, drivers are encouraged to consider travel during the early morning or after 8 p.m.  Traffic congestion is also expected at the I-95 and I-495 Turnpike interchanges along with I-495 and I-93 northbound leading into New Hampshire. “Safe travel is our top priority, and we encourage Commonwealth residents to plan ahead…
