The Recreation in Norwood Committee will be holding an informational meeting at the Coakley Middle School on Monday, October 1, at 7 p.m. to provide information and to answer the public's questions about the skating facility proposed for construction in South Norwood. Hosted by the South Norwood Committee, administrative representatives from the Norwood school system and general government will be on hand to help facilitate discussion. In July state legislators approved $5.6 million in the state budget for the proposed Norwood rink. “This is great news for Norwood families as well as the Commonwealth,” Rep. Rogers said the law empowers Norwood’s family day care providers.

Rogers attended a bill signing ceremony last week with Governor Deval Patrick who signed into law a measure which Rogers says will empower small businesses providing day care and help ease the financial burdens of working families. “This law empowers Norwood’s six family day care providers that are affected by this new measure and any increased state funding they receive can be passed on to their Norwood clients as child care fee reductions, driving down the cost of child care for our families,” Rogers said in a statement. Rep. John Rogers' recently released the results of his 2012 voter opinion poll.
Representative John Rogers (D-Norwood) recently released the results of a 2012 opinion poll distributed to voters during the Norwood Town Election in April. Of "hundreds" of polls handed out, according to Rogers' office, over 500 were returned. Rogers said in the accompanying letter that he was "encouraged" by the large response. The poll asked for voter opinion on several legislative issues, including the proposed soft drink and candy tax, the Right to Repair act, and assisted suicide, among others. Voters were also asked to rank six issues in order of importance: Jobs and the economy, education, health care, environment, public safety and tax relief. This rink is an investment in our community. The traffic impact would be minimal. Seriously every drive to the Roche Arena on a Friday night? I do because I bring my kids skating there. Rink traffic would be no worse than soccer and football that currently goes on at the Coakley.
