Thank you Susan! All my lists start out with pen and paper. Something about writing things down really impresses it upon my brain.

ReplyThat was beautiful Kiersten! I also believe. I lost my parents within weeks of each other 9 years ago. I could not have got through that without all the things you mentioned. Thank you for putting into words exactly how I feel.

Parents most definitely need to step up but many really have no clue about nutrition. When I was a kid we learned in school about the food pyramid and eating three meals a day. While we had junk food it wasn't to the extent of what is offered today. Also my parents generation grew up on wholesome food so that is what they fed us. Junk food was a treat not a staple. We also walked and rode our bikes everywhere. As I said before banning chocolate milk is a drop in the bucket and unless further steps are taken it isn't going to change much.

No worries Matt I didn't feel it was directed towards me. As a moderate I am often torn in these situations. I often wonder why I am so worried about others nutrition. I feed my children properly (most of the time) and teach them about proper nutrition and exercise. I have done my job and really nobody else's children are my business. Then I see the growing number of obese children and I can't help but want to be involved.

ReplyAs someone who organizes for a living and a person who has never valued stuff I love, love, love this! I feel one of the best gifts I have given my children is teaching them to really question whether or not they really need something or if will bring them joy. Happy Birthday!

I am far from liberal but I think that too many people are ignorant about nutrition. What they serve in school really doesn't affect my children since they only buy occasionally and eat very healthy at home.
I am however concerned for the ever increasing number of obese children. If the schools are feeding them crap and their parents are not informed about nutrition how will they learn? I know they have nutrition classes in school but that is just sending them mixed messages. I think instead of banning things they need to add healthy choices and treat the "bad" things as the treats they are.

That is very true Colleen. I do have one daughter though that gets chocolate milk everyday at school. It is part treat and part nutrition for her. He diet is mostly wonderful but it lacks calcium for sure. This really is just a drop in the bucket until they improve the quality of school meals and stop offering those processed and sugary ala carte options. Hopefully this is just the first step and those things will follow.

We drove by the Cleveland the other night when the Mash was going on. My girls got very nostalgic.
