Broadway Pizza in Norwood Already Making a Splash

A look into Norwood's new pizza joint.

Stergio Sanxaridis first started in the pizza business when he was 14 years old, and as of April 1 he’s the proud owner of Broadway Pizza in Norwood.

Sanxaridis said he started cooking when he was a kid with his grandparents.

“My father owned a restaurant in Holbrook, right across from the High School, and I was always at home with my grandparents,” he said. “We’re Greek, so we would always cook the traditional Greek foods. Since then I’ve always worked in the food business.”

Sanxaridis said he had been looking for new place for some time, and he thinks he’s got a great place in Norwood now.

“I always wanted to own my own place, cooking is a passion of mine, and I’ve always said one day I’ll do it,” he said. “There were other places I looked at; I tried to stay close to Randolph, where I live. There are vacant places there but restaurants were closing faster then they were opening. The business just wasn’t there, so I looked around. I came across this place, called the number and now here I am. I like Norwood, I have family that live here as well.”

Sanxaridis said his method of cooking pizza is very specific when it comes to the ingredients, right down to the flour in the crust. He said he tries to make everything in house, and adds his own touch to the food.

“I use little things here and there that we put in the food that other places don’t, things I picked up over the years,” he said. “We make the meatballs ourselves, the hamburgers, I try to keep it as fresh as possible. Nothing here comes out of a can.”

And at least one of his new regulars agrees.

“Everything’s cut fresh daily, it’s good fresh food,” said customer Peter Kay.

Sanxaridis said in about four months he’s already got regulars coming in daily. He said adding the personal touches is a very important part of getting people to come back.

“If there’s a problem, we fix it,” he said. “One time there was a problem with the customer’s order. Her son picked up some food and it wasn’t what she ordered, and she called to complain, which is fine. We corrected it and I made the delivery myself. From that point on she’s come back numerous times because of the situation. It wasn’t even a delivery to begin with, but it was something I felt I had to do.”

Sanxaridis added she was very thankful for the added effort.

“She even tried to give me a tip,” he said.

Sanxaridis said he’s seen some strange foods over the years, but he said the one strangest order he’s had was a buffalo chicken Greek salad at Broadway Pizza.

“For me, pickles, buffalo sauce and feta cheese on a salad just don’t mix well,” he said. “But they come back and order it all the time.”

Sanxaridis said he’s reaching out to the community in charity donations for Norwood’s youth sports.

Broadway Pizza is located on 75 Cottage St. and is open Mon - Sat, 11am - 9:30pm.
