Saturday Morning 'Good' in Our Own Way

Tomorrow CrossFit Florian and other notable CrossFit boxes will take a moment to honor those who were horrifically affected by this past Monday's event.

Sometimes the best quotes come from the oddest place…

“But here's what I DO know. If it's one person or a HUNDRED people, that number is not even a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the population on this planet. You watch the videos of the carnage and there are people running TOWARDS the destruction to help out. (Thanks FAKE Gallery founder and owner Paul Kozlowski for pointing this out to me). This is a giant planet and we're lucky to live on it but there are prices and penalties incurred for the daily miracle of existence. One of them is, every once in a while, the wiring of a tiny sliver of the species gets snarled and they're pointed towards darkness.

But the vast majority stands against that darkness and, like white blood cells attacking a virus, they dilute and weaken and eventually wash away the evil doers and, more importantly, the damage they wreak. This is beyond religion or creed or nation. We would not be here if humanity were inherently evil. We'd have eaten ourselves alive long ago.

So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, "The good outnumber you, and we always will.

American stand-up comedian, writer, actor and voice actor Patton Oswalt wrote this.  He is known for roles such as Spencer Olchin in the popular sitcom “The King of Queens”, and voicing Remy from the film “Ratatouille.”

Example of that good is all around us this week and is moving!  The CrossFit culture promotes that good and I proudly write today to share this effort.

Tomorrow (Saturday April 20, 2013) CrossFit Florian and other notable CrossFit boxes will take a moment to honor those who were horrifically affected by this past Monday’s event. (For those who do not know what CrossFit is, I highly suggest you read a blog post on CrossFit Florian I wrote last summer.) Tomorrow the greater Boston CrossFit community will partake in a ‘workout of the day’ (WOD) to honor “those who have passed, those seriously injured, those who saw horrific things, the first responders, the local nurses and doctors, the City of Boston, and America our country.”  The WOD name “Marathon Monday” will consist of:

5 Rounds

  • 4 Squat Clean and Jerks (185#,125#)
  • 15 Chest to Bar Pull-ups
  • 13 Burpee lateral jumps

After 5 rounds are complete: run a 800m

The scoring time is the total time for all 5 rounds plus the 800m sprint.

CrossFit Southie was the originator of this idea and set the goal to raise money for the Richard family.  More information: http://crossfitsouthie.com/we-are-all-affected

Please feel free donate here: https://www.youcaring.com/mmwod

This is just another shining example of the good in the world and the greater Boston CrossFit community will show their support in a way that seems a bit unorthodox but will be done with honor and conviction!

Feel free to stop by and watch.  The WOD and first heat will kick off at 8:30 am!
